Marathon Robotics Named Australia's Top Technology Start-Up

Receives both the Innovation Excellence Award (the top prize) and "People's Choice" Award at Annual Tech23 Conference

SYDNEY, Australia, August 24, 2010 -- Marathon Robotics (www.marathon-tagets.com) was selected as the nation's top technology start-up at the annual Tech23 Awards event in Sydney.

Of the 23 firms presenting, Marathon won the top prize (the Innovation Excellence Award), as well as the People's Choice Award as selected by the 400 attendees. The Innovation Excellence Award includes a check for A$50,000 from the Government of New South Wales.

"We were delighted to be named Australia's top startup, especially among such a talented group of companies," said Marathon CEO Alex Brooks. "And also receiving the People's Choice Award makes it a double honor."

Marathon Robotics has developed the first-ever "smart targets" for improving marksmanship - armored autonomous robots that look, move, and behave like real persons. Their paths are unpredictable, and their human-like motion makes them realistic and challenging targets.

In July, Marathon was awarded a $50 million contract from the US Marine Corps to deliver the US DoD's first-ever smart targets.

"The $50,000 prize money will definitely be put to good use," said Marathon's CTO Alex Makarenko. "The prize money will be used to test and improve the technology underlying our target robots."

Marathon Robotics has offices in Sydney, Australia, Huntsville, Alabama, and a European office in Toulouse, France.
